KNSI Radio's Central MN Baseball Round-Up (Sept. 6)

Back for a third season with your weekly amateur baseball (Town Team) baseball reports. The plan is to continue to include: Lakewood League, Central Valley League, Sauk Valley League, Eastern Minny West and Stearns County teams thru out their state tourney games. Check out the Minnesota Amateur Baseball Web site for additional information.

 

 CENTRAL VALLEY LEAGUE (REGION 11C)

 

WINSTED WILDCATS 7  WATKINS CLIPPERS 5  (9/3/16 @ Dassel)

The Winsted Wildcats, Crow River North Champions and the No. 3 seed from Region 7C, defeated the Watkins Clippers, the Central Valley League and Region 11C champions. The Wildcats were led by starting pitcher, Tony Kley, he threw 7 innings, scattered 7 hits, 4 walks and he recorded 9 strikeouts. Patrick Tschida (Draftee from the Watertown Indians) threw 2 innings of relief, he gave up just 1 hit and he recorded 4 strikeouts, to earn the save. The Clippers got on the board with one run in the first inning, then the Wildcats game back with 3 big runs in the 2nd inning, after a couple of miscues by the Clippers. The Wildcats added a run in the 4th and 2 more in the 5th, to make the score 6-1 going into the 6th inning. The Clippers added 3 runs, to make the score 6-4, both teams teams added a run after that. Curtis Herbolsheimer went 2-4 with a double for a RBI and he scored a run. Gregg Kohler went 1-3 with a double for a RBI and he was hit twice by a pitch. Matt Wroge went 1-3 with a RBI, he walked and he scored a run and Jake Prehn went 1-4 with a RBI, he walked and scored a run. Ryan Quast went 1-3 and he scored a run and Joe Kley went 1-4 with a walk and he scored a run. Nate Tesch had a RBI by way of a fielders choice, Garrett Zander walked and he scored a run and Tony Kley had sacrifice bunt for a RBI.

The Clippers, starting pitcher, Matt Geislinger, threw 8 innings, he scattered 7 hits, 4 walks, 7 runs (6 earned) and he recorded 11 strikeouts. Lincoln Haugen went 2-5 and he scored a run and Brenden Ashton went 2-4 with a RBI, he walked and he scored a run. Matt Geislinger went 2-3 with a pair of doubles for 2 RBI's, he walked and he scored a run. Kevin Kramer went 1-4 with a RBI and a stolen base and Dan Berg went 1-4 with a walk. Adam Hiltner walked and he scored a run and Gary Peters had a RBI by way of a fielders choice.

 

RAYMOND ROCKETS 2  SARTELL MUSKIES 1 (15 Innings)  (9/3/16 Hutchinson)

The Raymond Rockets, came into the tourney with a 18-5 record and runner up in the Corn Belt League and Region 11C. The Rockets upset the Sartell Muskies; they come in at 30-3 on the season, Champions of the Sauk Valley League and Region 1C. The Rockets got on the board early in the game and the Muskies came back with run in the 7th inning. Lefty hander Alex Lothammer, a former Muskie and Stone Poney threw 9 innings, he scattered 7 hits, 1 walk and he recorded 5 strikeouts. Tyler Knott (Former St. Cloud State Husky) threw 6 innings of relief, he gave up just 3 hits and he recorded 2 strikeouts. Tyler entered the game in the 8th inning and in the 15th inning, Alex Lothammer, re-entered the game to earn the win. The Rockets center fielder, Brett Swenson, made a game saving diving catch in left center on a line drive that would have plated 2 runs for the Muskies. The Rockets lead off hitter, Mike Jeseritz got his 3rd hit of the game and after one out, Tyler Steen hit a double to the left center field gap, to drive in Jeseritz.

Mike Jeseritz went 1-7 and he scored a run and Tyler Steen went 2-7 with a double for a RBI and a stolen base. Calvin Kosminskas went 3-6 with a double and Jordan Smith went 1-6 with a RBI. Justin Koenen went 1-5, he scored a run and he had 2 sacrifice bunts, John Sawatzky went 1-5 and Brett Swanson was hit by a pitch and he had a sacrifice bunt.

The Muskies starting pitcher, lefty Johnny Schumer, threw 8 1/3 innings, he scattered 8 hits and he recorded 6 strikeouts. Max Koprek threw 1 2/3 innings of relief, he recorded a strikeout. Adam Wenker threw 4 1/3 innings of relief, he gave up just 3 hits, and he recorded 5 strikeouts. The Muskie offense was led by Andrew Deters, he went 3-7 with 3 stolen bases. Jace Otto went 3-6 with a double, scored a run and he had a stolen base and Cody Partch went 1-4 with a sacrifice fly for a RBI. Brian Schellinger went 1-6 with a stolen base and Adam Schellinger went 1-5. Luke Sweeter went 1-3 with a 3 sacrifice bunts and Rob Voshell had sacrifice bunt and a stolen base. The Muskies season came to a abrupt end, with a very impressive record 31-3 record on the season. 

 

RAYMOND ROCKETS 10  NISSWA LIGHTNING 2  (9/4/16 @ Dassel)

The Raymond Rockets pulled another upset by defeating the Nisswa Lightning the Region 8C runner and a record of 28-2. The Rockets were led by the pitching performances by Cole Christianson and Zach Nelson. Cole threw 7 innings, scattered 6 hits, 2 walks and he recorded 2 strikeouts. Zach, 43 year old crafty right hander, threw 2 innings, he gave up one hit. The Rockets did collect 14 hits, led by Kyle Knott and Austin Smith, Kyle went 3-4 with a 390 foot home run and a double for 2 RBI's and Austin Smith went 2-5 with a double for 4 big RBI's. Tyler Steen had a good game, both behind the plate and at the plate, he went 2-5 with a double for a RBI and he scored a run. Justin Koenen had a big game, he went 3-4 with a double, he walked and he scored a run. Mike Jeseritz continue to sting the ball, he went 2-5 with a RBI and he covered a lot of ground in left field. Last check, there was no damage to the left field fence. Calvin Kasminkas went 1-2 with a RBI, walked twice and he scored  a run. Jordan Smith went 1-4 with a RBI, Eric Hulterstrum walked, scored 2 runs and he had a sacrifice bunt and Herman Solomon earned a walk.

The Lightning starting pitcher, Scott Sand, former Sauk Rapids Jimmies Hurricanes and the St. Joseph Saints) threw 3 innings, gave up 8 hits, 4 runs and he recorded 2 strikeouts. Luke Schumer (former St. Joseph Saint) threw 3 innings of relief, he gave up 3 hits, 2 runs and he walked two. Nate DeChaine, threw one inning of relief, he gave up 3 hits, 4 runs, 3 walks and he had one strikeout. Jason Roepke (former Norway Lake-Sunburg Lakers) threw the final inning, he gave a hit, one walk and he had a strikeout. Nat DeChaine had a good game, he went 3-3 with a home run and a double for a RBI, he walked and he scored a run. Luke Schumer went 1-4 and he scored a run and Aaron Jenkins went 1-4. Drew Boland went 1-3 with a RBI and he walked, Matt Casperson went 1-3 and Tyler Wittwer had a sacrifice bunt. Their season record was 28-3; overall another great season for the Lightning.

 

RAYMOND ROCKETS 11 LASTRUP LAKERS 5 (9/4/16 @ Hutchinson)

The Raymond Rockets were on a roll, just as they were in the region, they topped the Lastrup Lakers the No. 4 Seed from the Victory League. Willmar native, John Sawatzky started on the mound, he threw 7 innings, to earn the win. He gave up 7 hits, 5 runs, one walk and he had 2 strikeouts. The veteran right hander, Zach Nelson closed it out, with 2 innings of relief, he have up just one hit and he had a strikeout. The Rockets collected 19 hits with Mike Jeseritz and Kyle Knott leading the way on offense. Mike went 3-5 with a RBI and he scored 2 runs and Kyle went 3-4 with 4 big RBI's, he walked and he scored a run. Jordan Smith had a big game, he went 4-5 with a RBI and he scored a run and Calvin Kosminskas went 2-5 with a double for a RBI. Tyler Steen went 2-5 with a triple and he scored 2 runs, once again he called a great game, from his catcher position. Austin Smith went 1-4 with a sacrifice fly for a RBI and he scored a run. Justin Koenen went 2-5 with a double, stolen base and he scored a 2 runs and Cole Christianson went 1-1.

The Lakers starting pitcher, Eric Lampert (Draftee from the Upsala Blue Jays), he threw 3 innings, he gave up 5 hits, 3 runs and he issued one walk. Scott Janson threw 3 1/3 innings, he surrendered 9 hits, 6 runs and he had 2 strikeouts. Reggie Litke threw the final 1 2/3 innings of relief, he gave up 5 hits, 2 runs, one walk and had one strikeout. Paul Herman went 2-4 and he scored a run and Brad Meyer went 1-4 with 2 RBI's. Brandon Lochner went 1-4 with a RBI and he scored a run and Reggie Litke went 1-4 with a RBI and he scored a run. Nathan Janson went 1-3 and he scored a run and Rich Schlieman had a sacrifice fly for a RBI, a sacrifice bunt and he scored a run and Mitch Woitalla went 1-1, and Chad Weiss went 1-1, he was hit by a pitch, one sacrifice bunt, walked and he scored a run. 

 

RAYMOND ROCKETS 5   SOBIESKI SKIS 4 (9/5/16 @ Dassel)

The Raymond Rockets stayed hot thru out the State tourney; they defeated the No. 2 Seeded team from the Victory League, the Sobieski Skis. Lefthander Alex Lothammer, battled the Skis for 5 1/3 innings, he scattered 12 hits, surrendered 4 runs and he had two strikeouts, to earn the win. Austin Deutz (Draftee from the Milroy Yankees) threw 3 2/3 innings, he scattered 4 hits and he recorded 3 strikeouts to earn the save. The Rockets collected 9 hits, the one big hit was by the Rocket catcher, Tyler Steen.  He stepped up to the plate with the bases loaded and the score tied at 1-1 and he hit the first pitch, delivered to  him about 385 feet, off the light tower in left center field. Just gave the Rockets a big led of 5-1 going into the top of the 6th, when the Skis, answered with 3 runs.  This made the scored 5-4 and that held up with the awesome relief pitching of Austin Deutz. Tyler Steen had a sacrifice fly in the first inning to give the Rockets an early lead.   Mike Jeseritz the veteran 37 year old, went 3-4 and he scored 2 runs and Justin Koenen went 2-3 with a sacrifice bunt and he scored a run. Calvin Kosminskas went 2-4 with a double and Eric Hulterstrum went 1-3 and he scored on the grand slam. Austin Smith had a sacrifice fly and he was hit by a pitch and Kyle Knott earned a walk. With their runs in the region and the state tourney, the Rockets ended up with a 30-7 overall record.

The Skis starting pitcher; Tyler Jendro, threw a complete game, he scattered 9 hits, issued one walk and he recorded 5 strikeouts. The Skis collected 16 hits but they left many runners stranded on the bases. Beau Hanowski went 2-5 with a RBI and Tyler Jendro went 2-4 with a RBI and he was hit by pitch. Joey Hanowski went 3-5 and Jon  Czech went 2-5. Josh Wenzel went 2-4 with a double, a sacrifice bunt and he scored a run, Collin Eckman went 2-5 with a stolen base and Thomas Miller went 1-5 and he scored a run.

 

LAKEWOOD LEAGUE (REGION 7B)

 

MOORHEAD BREWERS 1  BEAUDREAUS SAINTS 0  (9/2/16 @ Hutchinson)

The Moorhead Brewers topped the Beaudreaus Saints, behind the pitching performance by Tanner Dahl. He threw all 9 innings, he scattered 5 hits, 2 walks and he recorded 11 strikeouts. The Brewers only run was scored on a wild pitch, after that batter got on base by being hit by the pitch. Mike Peschel went 2-4 with a double and he walked and Tom Fuchs (St. Cloud Tech Graduate) went 2-4 with a double. Tanner Adam went 1-3 with a sacrifice bunt and Spencer Flaten went 1-5. Chris Coste earned two walks, Chris Clemenson walked, was hit by a pitch and he scored the only run of the game and Derek Dormanen had a sacrifice fly. The Region 6B champions, now have build a 35-4 overall record for the season.

The Beaudreaus starting pitcher, Dominic Austing, threw 6 good innings. He scattered 5 hits, 2 walks and he recorded 7 strikeouts. Ryan Schneider threw 3 innings of relief, he gave up just one hit, 2 walks and he recorded 2 strikeouts. Thomas Imholte went 2-4 and Brian Minks went 1-4 with a double to led the Saints offense. Nick Maiers went 1-4 and Waylon Bemboom went 1-3. Both Steve Neutzling and Nick Hengel earned walks. The Beaudreaus Saints season comes to a end, they had a 18-13 overall and their third state tournament appearance in as many years.

 

SAUK VALLEY LEAGUE  (REGION 1C)

STEARNS COUNTY LEAGUE (REGION 15C)

 

PLATO BLUE JAYS 5  ELROSA SAINTS 2  (9/3/16 @ Dassel)

The defending Class C state champions, the Plato Blue Jays defeated the Elrosa Saints, behind the pitching of Chris Odegaard. He threw a complete game, he scattered 8 hits and he recorded 11 strikeouts. The Blue Jays collected 11 hits, led by Alan Prehn, he went 4-4 and he scored a run and Nolan Lepel went 2-3 with a double and he scored a run. Tyler Lang went 1-4 with a double for a RBI and Matt Odegaard went 1-4 with a double and he scored a run. Kyle Panning went 1-4 with a RBI and he scored a run and Chris Odegaard went 1-4 and he scored a run. Tony Berginger went 1-3 with a sacrifice bunt and Brian Graupmaner went 1-3.

The Saints starting pitcher, Ethan Vogt, threw 4 innings, he gave up 9 hits, 4 runs and he recorded 3 strikeouts. Tyler Reller (Draftee from the New Munich Silver Streaks) threw 1 inning, he gave up 2 hits, 1 run, 1 walk and he recorded 3 strikeouts. Aaron Vogt threw 2 innings of relief, he walked one. Austin Imdieke threw one inning of relief, he gave up one hit.  Austin Hadley went 2-4 with a double for a RBI and Matt Middendorf went 2-5 with a stolen base and he scored a run. Kevin Kuefler went 1-4 with a double and Ethan Vogt went 1-4 with a double. A. J. Hadley went 1-4 and Matt Schmitz went 1-4.
