Mankato 10, Big Lake 0 @ Glencoe (8 innings)
Mankato loaded the bases in the first inning, but couldn't score. In the second inning they loaded them again and made it count scoring four runs. Todd Rasmussen started things out with a single and Sam Stier and Ben Smith followed suit with two more singles. Adam Geiger singled in two runs and Smith scored on a wild pitch.
In the fourth, Mankato got another run when Adam Geiger lofted a long home run to left field.
Mankato got two more runs in the seventh. Jake Krier walked and Todd Rasmussen hit a ground rule double to left. Krier scored on a wild pitch and Rasmussen scored on a Sam Stier sacrifice fly.
Mankato ended it in the ninth scoring a run on a bases loaded walk and a two run single by Rasmussen to end it by the ten run rule. The losing pitcher for Big Lake was Ross Stein.
Geno Glenn was the winning pitcher for Mankato. He threw all eight innings giving up only three hits, two walks and striking out six.
Waconia 6, Mankato 3 @ Glencoe
Mankato kept the momentum from the first game scoring a run in the first and second inning. In the first Ben Smith singled, went to second on a ground out, stole third, and scored on a single by Josh Anderson. In the second, Mankato scored on a Sam Stier single. They put together a threat in the fourth inning with runners on first and third and no outs when Waconia came up with a pitcher to first to catcher double play. The next Met ended the inning by popping out to the pitcher.
Waconia got their first hit with one out in the fourth when Jeremy Salden singled. He went to third on Craig LaPlante's single and scored on a ground out by Nick Litfin.
Mankato tacked on another run in their fifth as Ben Smith scored on a single by Adam Geiger.
In the bottom of the eighth Waconia came to life. Ben Smothers and Ronnie Olson walked. Chris Bullis was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Mankato brought in Jamie Mulvihill to pitch for Alex Smith. Jeremy Salden hit a ground ball double down the third base line scoring two. After Greg Laplante was intentionally walked, Geno Glenn was brought back to pitch. He had thrown a complete game in the 1:00 P.M. game earlier in the day. On Glenn's first pitch, Nick Litfin hit a double to right center that cleared the bases making the score 6-3.
Mankato gave it a shot in the ninth getting two men on base. Waconia brought in Tony Wischnack to get the last out. He induced Ben Smith to pop to shortstop to end the game and season for Mankato. Alex Smith was the losing pitcher for Mankato. Dalton Sawyer, 17 was the winning pitcher for Waconia.
Mankato finishes third in the State. Waconia faces Isanti on Monday in Brownton for a 1:00 P.M. Championship game.
