Posted on January 16, 2013 by CJ Siewert

Another high-profile invitational tournament field has been set for the 2013 season. This year’s Stearns County Classic will take place on May 31-June 2 and is hosted by St. Martin and Lake Henry. The eight-team field includes five teams that reached last year’s State tourney – Lake Henry, Midway, Sobieski, Maple Lake (Class C Champion) and Raymond. The rest of the field includes St. Cloud Snappers, Cold Spring Rockies and St. Martin.

First round matchups:

Lake Henry vs. St. Cloud @ St. Martin – May 31, 8:15 pm

Midway vs. Cold Spring @ Lake Henry – June 1, 11:00 am

St. Martin vs. Sobieski @ St. Martin – June 1, 10:00 am

Maple Lake vs. Raymond @ St. Martin – June 1, 12:00 pm

Last year’s results…

The Sobieski Skis won the Stearns County Classic in convincing fashion, defeating Regal 16-2. Joey Hanowksi (2B, RBI) and Andrew Gurbada (3 RBI) each had three hits at Lake Henry. Nate Olson struck out six and allowed two hits in five innings for the win. Andrew Lange (2B), Collin Eckman (4 RBI) and Tyler Jendro all had two hits for the Skis.

In the third place game, Midway defeated Lake Henry 6-5. Jake Lund went 2-for-3 with a three-run home run to lead the Snurdbirds and seal Lake Henry’s fate. Brent Lieser went 2-for-3 for the Lakers.
