The Aitkin Steam rolled to a 13-0 win in 7 innings over the Flensburg Falcons on Sunday, seizing control with a 6-run top of the 2nd inning.
After a scoreless 1st inning, the Steam put up 6 runs in the 2nd when Jake McGuire singled, and along with an error on the play, 2 runs came in to score. Nathan Ehnstrom then singled to drive in 2 more and Zack Ehnstrom capped off the big inning with a 2-run double to make it 6-0.
Aitkin tacked on 2 runs in the 4th on an rbi double from John Pelarski and another run-producing hit from Zack Ehnstrom to make it 8-0.
Aitkin then proceeded to add 3 more runs in the top of the 5th when Jake Ince led off with a single, stole 2nd and went to 3rd on an error. Ince then scored on a single from Drew Paulbeck to make it 9-0. Another single from Hunter Hills and a walk to John Pelarski loaded the bases with 2 outs and Nathan Ehnstrom added 2 more rbi’s to his stat line with a single to make it 11-0.
The Steam produced their final 2 runs in the top of the 6th on a 2-run double from Jake McGuire to score both Drew Paulbeck and Hunter Hills to put Aitkin ahead 13-0.
The Falcons had some early chances to score, getting a walk and a single from Simon Pantzke but stranded 2 runners in the bottom of the 1st. Their next best scoring chance came in the bottom of the 6th when 3 consecutive walks opened the inning, but a strikeout and a 5-4-3 double play killed the rally. 3 different Aitkin pitchers combined on the 4-hit shutout with starter Zack Ehnstrom getting the Win.
