The Avon Lakers picked up their first win of the season by downing the Foley Lumberjacks 4-1 on Saturday at Blattner Field in Avon. Lakers starter Drew Lieser allowed just a 1st inning run over 7 innings to get the WIn and then relievers Reese Gregory and Matt Pichelmann combined to close out the win. Both teams are now 1-1 in 2026.
Drew Beier led off the game with a single for Foley, and 1 out later, a walk to Trey Emmerich moved him to 2nd. Mitch Keeler then singled to center to score Beier anf give Foley the early 1-0 lead.
Foley starter Trey Emmerich allowed lead-off baserunners in the 1st inning as Ryan Janzen singled in the 1st but that was it for the Lakers. In the bottom of the 2nd, Elian Mezquita walked, followed by a Drew Lieser single to center. Jack Theisen then reached on an error and Avon had the bases loaded with no outs. Abe Kalthoff drove in Mezquita with the tying run on a ground ball to 1st to make it 1-1. Carter Holthaus then put Avon ahead wtih asacrifice fly. RYan Janzen then walked and Elliott Burnett was hit by a pitch to load the bases once again. A Drew Beier ground out brought in Theisen to make it 3-1 before Emmerich got a pop up to end the 2nd inning with Avon up 3-1.
It stayed that way until the bottom of the 6th as no team seriously threatened until Jack Theisen led off the 6th with a walk and was sacrificed to 2nd on a bunt by Abe Kalthoff. A Carter Holthaus single moved Theisen to 3rd and RYan Janzen walked to fill the bases with1 out. After a Strikeout, Jack Theisen scored on a wild pitch and Avon was up 4-1.
After Drew Lieser finsihed his 7th inning on the mound with a 1-2-3 inning, Avon turned things over to Reese Gregory in the 8th and then Matt Pichelmann came on to work a 1-2-3 9th innings as well as that trio of Lakers pitchers retired the final 12 Lumberjack hitters of the game.
