The Avon Lakers picked up their first win of the 2025 season on Friday night when they scored 2 in the 1st and another 4 in the 3rd to build a 6-0 lead, going on to win 7-0 over visiting Fort Ripley. Elian Mezquita and Reese Gregory combined on a 6-hit shutout for Avon while Kadyn Mork, Cole Wellmann and Jack Theisen had 2 hits each for the Lakers.
Avon got on the board with 2 runs in the bottom of the 1st when Kadyn Mork led off with a single and Elliott Burnett reached on an error. Caleb Curry then doubled to score Mork and make it 1-0, and Reese Gregory followed with a sacrifice fly to bring home Burnett to make it 2-0 after 1 inning.
In the bottom of the 3rd, Elliott Burnett got things started with a single and Caleb Curry was hit by a pitch. A 1-out single by Elian Mezquita loaded the bases and Carter Philippi drove home Burnett on a fielders choice to make it 3-0. A Cole Wellmann rbi single scored Curry to make it 4-0. Jack Theisen then doubled to drive in Philippi and after Carter Holthaus was walked to load the bases, Kadyn Mork was hit by a pitch to force in Wellmann to make it 6-0 after 3 innings.
The Rebels best chance to score came in the top of the 6th when Isaac Hanson singled with 1 out, and after a fly out. Jake Miller singled and with an error on the play, the Rebels had men at 2nd and 3rd with 2 outs. Elian Mezquita ended the threat by getting a ground ball to shortstop to end the inning.
Avon scored their final run in the bottom of the 7th on a bases-loaded walk to Kadyn Mork, making the final score 7-0.
