The Pierz Brewers traveled to Upsala and pounded out a 17-2 win in 7 innings over the Bluejays behind a 3-Hr game from Gunnar Wicklund. The Brewers held a slim 4-2 lead after 5 innings, then erupted for 13 runs in the last 2 innings to put the game away.
The game got started with a bag when Gunnar Wicklund smashed a Home Run to right to start the game and give Pierz a quick 1-0 lead just 3 pitches into the game.
Upsala quickly answered back in the bottom of the 1st when Bryce Binek singled with 1 out, advanced to 2nd on a groundout and then scored on an rbi double from Matt Swanson to make it 1-1 after 1.
Pierz made it 4-1 in the top of the 3rd when Rylee Rauch walked with 1 out, then scored on a double from Kaden Kruschek. Phil Zynda then added an rbi double of his own to make it 3-1. Chuck Boser then collected the Brewers 3rd straight hit with a run-producing single and Pierz led 4-1.
Justin Cichon led off the bottom of the 3rd with single off Gunnar Wicklund, then after a strikeout, Brandon Welinski doubled to the left field corner to move Cichon to 3rd. A walk to Matt Swanson loaded the bases with 1 out. CJ Clear then singled to drive in Cichon to make it 4-2 but that’s all the Bluejays got out of the inning as the Brewers led 4-2 after 3 innings.
The game quieted down then for the next 2 innings, with the 4-2 score intact until the top of the 6th. That’s when the Brewers sent 11 men to the plate and scored 6 times. The inning got started with a walk to Pete Schommer and Mike Poser getting hit by a pitch. Gunnar Wicklund then belted his 2nd Homer of the game over the wall in right for a 3-run shot to make it 7-2. The next 2 Pierz hitters, Rylee Rauch and Kaden Kruschek then both walked. A Phil Zynda rbi double scored Rauch to make it 8-3. After a flyout to left, a walk to Derek Dahmen loaded the bases. Michael Nezerka then got hit by a pitch to force in Kruschek and it was 9-3. Pete Schommer then delivered a sacrifice fly to bring in Zynda with the Brewers 6th run of the inning as the Pierz lead had grown to 10-2.
This time, Upsala didn’t have a response as they quickly went down in order in the bottom of the 6th.
The Brewers then backed up their big 6th inning with an even bigger 7th. They added another 7 runs to go up 17-2. Gunnar Wicklund led off the inning with his 3rd Homer, and 4th hit, of the day with a blast to left. Rylee Rauch then singled, followed by a Kaden Kruschek walk. Phil Zynda’s rbi single brought in Rauch to make it 12-2. After a walk to Chuck Boser, an Upsala error allowed Kruschek to score, followed by Michael Nezerka’s rbi single up the middle. Pete Schommer then walked with the bases loaded, forcing home another run to make it 15-2. Mike Poser’s ball was then misplayed for a Bluejays error as Dahmen scored. A sacrifice fly by Gunnar Wicklund brought home Michael Nezerka with the final run as Pierz took a 17-2 lead.
The Bluejays then went down in the bottom of the 7th on a fly out to left and 2 strikeouts to finish off the Brewers 17-2 victory.
