Matt Kummet belted a 3-run Homer and Lane Girtz added a solo shot to back up the Complete Game pitching effort of Matt Tautges as the Buckman Billygoats defeated the Pierz Lakers 8-1 on Friday night at Hellie Field at Pierz Legion Park on Friday night.
The Billygoats loaded the bases in the top of the 2nd off Lakers starter Carter Petron on 3 straight 1-out singles from Matt Kummet, Andrew Rueckert and Jack Suska. After Petron got a fly out to right, he walked Travis Kahl to force in Kummet to make it 1-0, then Matt Tauges delivered a 2-run single to put Buckman ahead 3-0.
In the top of the 3rd, Noah Boser and Ben Thoma opened the inning with 1st pitch singles, followed by Matt Kummet’s towering 3-run Homer to right to make it 6-0.
In the top of the 5th, Buckman made it 7-0 Matt Kummet singled, moved to 2nd on a hit by Andrew Rueckert, then Kummet tagged up and advanced on a fly out to right. Kummet then scored on a wild pitch.
In the top of the 6th, Lane Girtz crushed a line-drive, 2-out solo Homer to left to put the Billygoat ahead 8-0.
The Lakers got their lone run in the bottom of the 7th when Kamden Happke reached on a fielders choice, then Kolten Happke doubled to left. Carter Petron put the Lakers on the board with a ground out to 2nd to score Kamden Happke to make it 8-1.
