Caleb Curry Homered twice, including a rare inside-the-parker, and added a double as the Avon Lakers downed the Foley Lumberjacks 4-2 on Friday night at Blattner Field.
Avon scored in the bottom of the 1st when Elliott Burnett singled with 1 out and then Caleb Curry jumped on the 1st pitch he saw from Mike Moulzolf for a 2-run Homer over the left field fence for a 2-0 lead.
Caleb Curry then led off the bottom of the 3rd by hitting a fly ball to deep left field. When Foley left fielder Luke Olson went to retrieve the ball against the fence, he became stuck under the fence as the ball lay just feet away, allowing Curry to circle the bases for an inside-the-park Home Run to make it 3-0.
In the top of the 5th, Foley finally got to Avon starter Cole Wellmann, as Mitch Keeler led off with a walk, followed by a single from Alex Foss. After a flyout to left, Joe Ziwicki was hit by a pitch to load the bases with 1 out. Drew Beier then ripped an rbi single to right to score Keeler and make it 3-1. Luke Olson then followed with an rbi single of his own, plating Foss to make it 3-2. Foley still had the bases loaded with just 1 out but Cole Wellmann then got both Josiah Peterson and Dan Marod to pop up to 3rd baseman Elian Mezquita on back-to-back pitches to keep Avon in front 3-2 as the Lumberjacks left the bases loaded.
Caleb Curry led off the bottom of the 5th with a line drive double to right, then went to 3rd on a ground ball to to 1st by Elian Mezquita. Cole Wellmann then lined a single up the middle to score Curry and make it 4-2 after 5 innings.
That finished off the scoring for the night. Cole Wellmann lasted until the top of the 7th when he was struck in the back by a wicked line drive off the bat of Drew Beier with a 1 out in the top of the 7th. He was able to stay in the game, moving to 3rd base, and replaced on the mound by lefty Kadyn Mork. Mork held Foley scoreless the rest of the game, not allowing a hit to Foley over the final 2.2 innings.
