Farming has been swinging the lumber since the postseason began. The Flames are averaging 7.8 per game since regionals and got to that number in their opening round Class C state tournament win.
Farming, the second seed out of Region 8, won 7-0 vs. the second seed out of Region 10, the Milroy Irish, Saturday at Veterans Memorial Field in Hutchinson.
New Munich SilverStreaks draftee pitcher Ty Reller was stellar. The left-hander tossed a four-hit, complete game shutout. He struck out seven and allowed one walk.
The third game of the day from Hutchinson was scoreless until the Flames erupted for three runs in the bottom of the fifth. After Adam Winkels laid down a well-executed safety squeeze with the bases loaded and one out to bring in one run, Tylor Schroeder roped a two-run triple.
That was all the damage allowed by Jackson Bulls draftee Ryan Rasche in six innings. He allowed five hits and three walks and struck out five.
Winkels came through again in the seventh with a two-out RBI single. Schroeder flew out to the right field warning track to end the threat.
Farming tacked on three in the eighth on a Cameron Miller RBI single, Will Mergen bases loaded walk and Isaac Nett sacrifice fly.
Farming outhit Milroy 10-4 and committed one error to Milroy’s two.

Regal 2, Dumont 0 (11 innings)
For the first time since 2016, the Regal Eagles are winners at the state tournament.
The first game of four Class C contests Saturday in Hutchinson was a thriller as Regal won 2-0 in 11 innings against the Dumont Saints.
Chi Schneider provided the heroics, singling to center field after a lengthy at-bat with one out in the top of the 11th. The hit drove in one. The ball got by the center fielder to allow a second run to score.
Schneider finished the game going 2-for-4 with a hit by pitch. He had a chip on his shoulder in the final at-bat after the cleanup hitter in front of him, Nathan Meyer, was intentionally walked to set up a possible double play with runners on first and second.
“It definitely had me going,” Schneider said. “I like being put in that situation, and I didn’t have the best at-bat before, so it was good to get another one back and get back up there.”
Gabe Rohman started for Regal and scattered seven hits and six strikeouts over six innings. Roscoe Rangers draftee Josiah Utsch pitched a scoreless seventh. Brayden Skindelein pitched the final 3 ⅔ innings with two straight strikeouts to get out of a jam in the eighth and four total strikeouts. Dumont went down in order in the bottom of the 11th.
“They're great pitchers. Top to bottom, we just have great guys,” Schneider said. “Just really keeps it flowing, they all throw strikes, and they don't walk people, and they have energy up there. No one's a drag, they're all a blast to have on the mound.”
Luke Knudsen led the Regal attack, going 3-for-5 in the No. 2 slot.
Dumont came up shy in its quest for its first state tournament win since 2022. It was little fault of iron man Jordon Roos, who threw 167 pitches in a complete game. The 29-year-old right-hander and team manager struck out 13 and allowed seven hits, one extra-base hit and one walk. At the plate, Roos went 1-for-4 with a walk.
The Saints were led offensively by Eli Larson, who went 3-for-4. Austin Ballhagen and Isaiah Sykora added two hits.
Regal moves on to the round of 16 to play 1:30 p.m. Aug. 24 in Brownton vs. the Waterville Indians.
The Eagles snapped a streak of three straight opening round state tournament losses, the last coming in 2023.
“My only time in the state tournament besides this was in 2020, and in the first round it was a tough loss,” Schneider said. “I'm excited to go to the second round and looking forward to the next game. Should be a good one, and hopefully keep it rolling.”
