Clear Lake Lakers Oust Freeport Black Sox From Region 9C With 2-1 Win

The Clear Lake Lakers made the most of their 4 hits against Freeport Black Sox starter Kaden Toutges on Saturday in Opole during a a Region 9C elimination game.

After Toutges and Lakers starter Jackson Phillipp each tossed 2 scoreless innings, Clear Lake’s Alex Schroeder opened the inning by reaching on an error, but was forced out at 2nd on a ground ball by Quentin Dukowitz. Owen Kolbinger then picked up Clear Lake’s first hit of the game with a single, followed by Jake Oliver getting hit by a pitch from Kaden Toutges to load the bases with 1 out. Caden Johnson then lashed a 2-run single to score both Dukowitz and Kolbinger to make it 2-0. Matt Korte then singled to center for the Lakers 3rd hit of the inning, but Toutges followed with a strikeout and a line out to right fielder Carter Neuenschwander to end the inning with Clear Lake leading 2-0.

Freeport put together a scoring chance in the top of the 4th off starter Jackson Phillipp on a 1-out single from Owen Fradette, a fielders choice, another hit from Jared Laudenbach and an error that gave the Sox runners at the corners with 2 outs. But Jackson Phillipp then got Addi Dobowey to ground out to 2nd baseman Caden Johnson to end the threat.

From that point on, the bats for both teams were pretty quiet as the game sped right along. Freeport left runners at the corners again in the 7th on a Jared Laudenbach single and Nate Mettenburg getting hit by a pitch with 1 out, but Jackson Phillipp kept it a 2-0 game by getting a fly out to center fielder Caleb Leintz and a strikeout.

After picking up 3 hits in their 2-run 3rd inning, Clear Lake would get just 1 more hit in the game off Kaden Toutges, and that was a 2-out single from Caden Johnson in the 5th.

Still trailing 2-0 heading to the top of the 9th, Jackson Phillipp got Mason Toutges to line out to left fielder Cade Simones to open the inning, but then Jared Laudenbach laced a double to center for his 3 hit of the game. Addi Dobowey then singled to put runners at the corners and now Freeport had the go ahead run at the plate with 1 out. Nate Mettenburg flew out to Ryan Liebrenz in center to bring home Laudenbach for the sacrifice fly to make it 2-1, but Jackson Phillipp finished off the Lakers win with a strikeout, his 10th of the game as Clear Lake prevailed 2-1 to advance to another elimination game on Sunday back in Opole.
