Farming opened up its Region 15C play with an 8-6 loss to the Cold Spring Rockies.
After spotting Cold Spring an early 4-0 lead, the Flames roared back with six unanswered runs through the middle innings. A fourth-inning RBI walk by Tylor Schroeder scored Adam Winkels, cutting the lead to 4-1. In the fifth, Farming put up a four-run rally on five hits, including a long two-run dinger by Ethan Navratil, scoring Will Mergen ahead of him. Isaac Nett followed with a single, stole second, and scored on a double to center by Josh Becker. Josh later scored on a single by Tylor Schroeder. The Flame’s last run came in the sixth, on Isaac Nett’s sacrifice fly, scoring Carson Holthaus. That run put Farming ahead 6-4 after six innings.
But Cold Spring’s seasoned lineup kept the bats going, as they put up four runs in the seventh to regain the lead for good. The Flames did not threaten during its final three at-bats, managing just a single and a walk.
Adam Nibaur went the first 6 ⅓, giving up 10 hits while striking out 10. Ethan went the final 2 ⅔, striking out two.
It’s win-or-go home time on Sunday morning, 11:00am, when Farming takes on Elrosa in the elimination bracket. Come on out to Watkins and cheer the club on as they try to advance into the second weekend of Region 15C.
