Farming Wins Twice Over the Weekend

Farming picked up two home wins during this past weekend, beating New Munich 10-8 and Roscoe 9-3.

On Friday night, Farming scored six runs in the bottom of the eighth as they rallied to beat the Silverstreaks.  Newcomer Bennett Hylla, who signed with the club just this past week, smacked a double in his first at bat in a Farming uniform, driving in Ethan Navratil.  Bennett later walked with the bases loaded, driving in his second run.

The pivotal eighth inning came without the benefit of a hit, as New Munich pitchers struggled with their control.  Carson Holthaus was hit by a pitch and Isaac Nett walked.  An error on the leftfielder, a wild pitch, and walks to Tylor Schroeder, Bennett Hylla, and Josh Becker brought home the first three runs.  Owen Sundermann laid down a suicide squeeze, and a run scored on the fielder’s choice.  A second New Munich error helped bring home two additional runs.

Farming was outhit 10-6 and New Munich stranded 15 base runners.

Robert Schleper went the first five innings, before being relieved by winning pitcher Breyden Einyck.  Will Mergen pitched a scoreless 9th to pick up the save.

On Saturday night, the Flames played their best overall ballgame of the season, avenging an earlier loss at Roscoe as they pounded the Rangers 9-3.  Robert Schleper jacked a three-run homer in the third on what would have been his dad’s 66th birthday.  Drew Cramlet had a two run single in the fifth, scoring Robert and pinchrunner Isaac French.  And Ethan Navratil finished off the scoring with a towering homer in the eighth.

Tylor Schroeder went the first 6 ⅔ innings to get the win, allowing two runs on three hits.  Ethan pitched the final 2 ⅓, surrendering a single run.

With the weekend sweep, Farming improves to 2-4 in the Stearns County League–South.  Next up is a road tilt at Meire Grove on Sunday, June 8, 1:30pm.
