Believe it or not, some town teams have yet to play a game while the Freeport Black Sox are ready to host the first MBA sanctioned tournament of the season.
The 9th Annual Freeport Black Sox Tournament takes place Friday through Sunday in Freeport and is an eight-team – two games per team guaranteed – tournament. The field includes Freeport, Spring Hill, Sartell, Long Prairie, North St. Paul Roosters, Upsala, St. Cloud Beaudreaus and Luverne.
Spring Hill returns as last year’s champion after defeating Freeport 5-0, New Market 5-3 and Beaudraus 5-2 in the championship.
Last year also marked the second time the entire tournament was hosted exclusively on Freeport’s field since the installation of lights in 2013 allowed for night games.
