Farming kept its hopes alive for a state tournament birth with a 4-2 over Elrosa on Sunday.
After Elrosa took a 1-0 lead after one, Issac Nett’s single brought home Ethan Navratil in the fourth to tie the score 1-1. With Elrosa leading 2-1 in the sixth, Farming rallied. Will Mergen, Ethan Navratil, and Aaron Nett all walked to load the bases. After a strikeout, Adam Winkels laid down an excellent suicide squeeze bunt, which scored Will with the tying run. The pitcher overthrew first trying to get Adam, and Ethan rumbled across the plate. Isaac then scored when the first baseman overthrew the bag at third.
Draftee Trent Wendlandt went the first eight innings, giving up just a couple of runs and scattering eight hits. Adam Winkels pitched the ninth inning for the save.
With the win, Farming moves into the second weekend of the Region 15C Tournament, where they will face St. Martin. Game time is Saturday, 1:00pm, in Watkins. The winner will qualify for the state tournament, while the loser will put their mitts away for the season.
