Foley Lumberjacks Lock Up 3rd Place In District 4B As Trey Emmerich Blanks Nisswa 3-0 On 6-Hit Shutout

The Foley Lumberjacks, the #6 seed entering the District 4B Tournamentavenged two regular season losses to #2 seeded Nisswa with a 3-0 shutout win over the Lightning on Saturday in Pierz.

Isaiah Biehn got the start for Nisswa, his 3rd such assignment of the Tournament, which included a 1st round no-hitter against Fort Ripley while lefty Trey Emmerich was making his 2nd start and 3rd appearance of the Tournament for Foley.

After a scoreless first 2 innings, Josiah Peterson put the Lumberjacks on the board with a 2-out solo Homer in the top of the 3rd to give Foley a 1-0 lead.

Foley made it 2-0 in the top of the 5th off Nisswa reliever Ben Dornsief when Teddy Rasmussen walked with 2 outs and scroed on Trey Emmerich’s rbi double to make it 2-0.

In the bottom of the 7th, Nisswa put together it’s most serious threat against Trey Emmerich when Kody Ruedisili reached on a 2-out error, Jeremiah Piepkorn singled to left and Nate DeChaine was intentionally walked to load the bases.  But Emmerich got Sam Peterson to pop up to shortstop Charles Hackett to end the threat.

In the top of the 8th, with Colbe Tappe on the mound for Nisswa, Josiah Peterson led off with a single, was sacrificed to 2nd on a bunt from Charles Hackett and then Peterson went to 3rd on a passed ball. After a walk toTrey Emmerich, Peterson came in to score on a wild pitch to put Foley ahead 3-0.

In the bottom of the 8th, Nisswa got a 1-out baserunner when Chris Pederson got hit by a pitch from Trey Emmerich, but a groundout and a strikeout later and the inning was over.

Sam Jensen came on to pitch the top of the 9th for the Lightning and turned in a 1-2-3 inning with 2 strikeouts, giving Nisswa one last chance, trailing 3-0 entering the bottom of the 9th.

The Lightning sent up Tyler Wittwer to pinch-hit to start the inning, and the veteran came through with a double to right. Kody Ruedisili then followed with another double, but Wittwer was only able to advance to 3rd, but now Nisswa would have the tying run at the plate with no outs and Jeremiah Piepkorn, Nate DeChaine and Same Peterson all yet to come in the inning. Trey Emmerich got Jermeiah Piepkorn to ground out to 3rd baseman Brett Leabch for the first out, then Nate DeChaine popped up to shortstop Charles Hackett for the 2nd out. Emmerich then finished off his shutout by getting Sam Peterson to fly out to left fielder Teddy Rasmussen to end the game with the 3-0 win for the Lumberjacks.

Foley goes into the Class B State Tournament as the #3 seed out of District 4B, while Nisswa will go as the #4 seed.
