Foley Lumberjacks Pull Out 2-1 Win In 11 Innings Over Fort Ripley Rebels To Keep Season Alive

In a District 4B elimination game on Friday night in Avon, the Foley Lumberjacks scored the winning run on a 2-out error in the bottom of the 11th to beat the Fort Ripley Rebels 2-1.

Needless to say, the pitching dominated in this game as Fort Ripley starter Jack Schafer and Foley starter Trey Emmerich kept the game scoreless through the first 5 innings.

Tyler Gruye took over from Schafer to begin the 6th inning for the Rebels.

Still scoreless entering the top of the 7th, Fort Ripley finally got on the board when Eli Roberts singled with 1 out, then Alex Haapajoki singled with 2 outs. Jack Tiemann then got hit by a pitch from Trey Emmerich to load the bases with 2 outs.  A wild pitch then allowed Eli Roberts to score and put the Rebels ahead 1-0.

Foley came right back to tie it up in the bottom of the 7th when Chuck Hackett doubled with 1 out, then an error moved Hackett to 3rd. Hackett then socred on another Rebels error to tie the game at 1-1 after 7 innings.

In the top of the 8th, the Rebels got a lead-off double from Bill Sather but couldn’t get him home against reliever Drew Beier.

In the bottom of the 8th, the Lumberjacks loaded the bases on singles from Drew Beier and Joe Ziwicki and a 2-out walk to Trey Emmerich, but CHuck Hackett grounded into a force out to end the inning.

In the top of the 9th, the Rebels got another double, this time with 1 out, from Alex Haapajoki. But a single to center by Jack Tiemann resulted in Lumberjacks center fielder Joe Ziwicki throwing out Haapajoki at the plate, the Mason Argir lined back to the mound to end the inning.

The Lumberjacks got a 2-out walk from Teddy Rasmussen in the bottom of the 9th, but Rebels reliever Tyler Gruye got Drew Beier to pop up to shortstop Alex Haapajoki to send the game to extra innings still tied at 1-1.

Nick Jelacie led off the top of the 10th with a single for the Rebels but Drew Beier got a groundout and a pair of strikeouts to leave Jelacie stranded at 2nd.

In the bottom of the 10th, Foley got a 2-out double from Brett Leabch but Tyler Gruye then fanned Trey Emmerich to end the 10th.

In the top of the 11th, Wyat Gabrielson walked with 1 out against Drew Beier, but another strikeout and a gorund ball back to the mound sent the game to the bottom of the 11th still tied at 1-1.

Chuck Hackett led off the bottom of the 11th with a single for Foley, followed by a sacrifice bunt by Mitch Keeler. After Hunter Hamers popped out to 3rd baseman Brett Kramer for the 2nd out, Teddy Rasmussen put the ball in play and when the ball was misplayed for an error, Hackett raced home from 2nd with the winning run as the Lumberjacks stayed alive with the 2-1 win in 11 innings.

Fort Ripley ends their season with the loss, while Foley will advance to play again on Friday at 8:30 pm in Avon agains the loser of the Buckman/Pierz Lakers game.
