Cooper Schenk’s 2-run single in the bottom of the 5th put Fort Ripley ahead 4-3 and they never trailed again, defeating the St. Stephen Steves 8-4 in the Season Opener for the Rebels. Fort Ripley won the game despite getting outhit by the Stgeves 8-4 and committing 5 errors. Brett Kramer Homered for the Rebels and Cole Fuecker Homered for the Steves. Tyler Gruye went 5 innings for the Rebels and got the Win in his Fort Ripley debut.
St. Stephen opened the scoring in the top of the 2nd on Joe Tuholsky’s 2-out rbi double, scoring Zach Fuecker who had singled to make it 1-0.
In the bottom of the 2nd, the Rebels grabbed the lead when Bill Sather was hit by a pitch and scored on Brett Kramer’s 2-run Homer to left.
The Steves tied it up in the top of the 3rd on a Jake Schelonka single, a walk, and 2 Fort Ripley errors to make it 2-2.
In the top of the 4th, Joe Tuholsky led off with a single and stole 2nd. He then scored on a Jake Schelonka rbi single to put St. Stephen ahead 3-2.
In the bottom of the 5th, the Rebels took the lead for good. Mason Argir led off with a walk, followed by an Isaac Hanson single. After a wild pitch put men at 2nd and 3rd, a walk to Alex Haapajoki filled the bases. Cooper Schenck then singled to center to drive in both Argir and Hanson and make it 4-3 in favor of the Rebels. After Riley DeRosier was hit by a pitch to reload the bases, Brett Kramer drew a 2-out walk to force in another run to make it 5-3 after 5 innings.
In the bottom of the 6th, the Rebels used 2 walks, an error and a bases-loaded hit by pitch by Riley DeRosier to force in another run to give the Rebels a 6-3 lead.
In the bottom of the 7th, Fort Ripley tacked on 2 more runs on a pair of walks, a hit batter and a fielders choice to go up 8-3.
St. Stephen then scored in the top of the 9th when Cole Fuecker led off the inning with a solo Homer to left to make the final score 8-4.
