Fort Ripley Rebels Surprise Sobieski 9-1 As Schafer, Roberts Play Key Roles

The Fort Ripley Rebels snapped a 4-game losing streak and picked up their first win since Memorial Day as they knocked off the visiting Sobieski Skis 9-1 on Sunday.

The Rebels wasted no time, jumping on Skis starter Evan Lemieur for 4 runs in the bottom of the 1st. Eli Roberts led off with a walk, followed by an Alex Haapajoki base hit. With 1 out, Wyatt Gabrielson walked to load the bases. After a Lemieur strikeout of Riley Derosier for the 2nd out, Gus Lund doubled to left to score both Roberts and Haapajoki to make it 2-0. Brett Kramer then singled to right to drive in Gabrielson to make it 3-0. Jack Schafer then made it 4-0 with an rbi single of his own as the Rebels had the 4-0 lead after 1 inning.

Jack Schafer had a terrific top of the 2nd, striking out Alex Thoma, Evan Lemieur and Hudson Filippi in order to keep it 4-0.

With the score still 4-0 going to the bottom of the 4th, Jack Schafer led off the last of the 4th with a single, and was sacrificed to 2nd by Chris Smolke. Eli Roberts then singled to right to bring home Schafer and make it 5-0 after 4 innings.

The Skis got on the board in the top of the 7th when Evan Lemieur doubled with 1 out, then a 2-out rbi single from Riley Czech made it 5-1.

Fort Ripley had a big answer in the bottom of the 7th as Wyatt Gabrielson opened the inning with a double, then back-to-back walks to Riley Derosier and Gus Lund filled the bases. After a strikeout, Jack Schafer singled to drive in Gabrielson to make it 6-1, then Riley Derosier scored on a wild pitch to make it 7-1 and Chris Smolke walked to refill the bases. Eli Roberts then drilled a 2-run single to score both Lund and Schager to make it 9-1 after 7 innings.

Tyler Gruye took over from Jack Schafer to pitch the 8th for the Rebels, and allowed hits to Collin Kray and Alex Thoma but no damage  as he fanned Evan Lemieur to end the inning.

In the top of the 9th, Hudson Filippi led off with a single but was then erased on a double play ball off the bat of Riley Czech, then Gruye got Matt Baier to pop out to right field to end the game with a 9-1 Fort Ripley win.
