Fort Ripley Stays Hot, Ends Regular Season on 3-Game Win Streak after 7-3 Win at Foley

The Fort Ripley Rebels beat the Foley Lumberjacks 7-3 on Sunday in Foley to end the season with a 3-game winning streak after starting the year by losing 8 out of 9 games. The Rebels used a 3-run top of the 4th and never trailed. Jack Schafer threw 7 shutout innings, scattering 9 hits to get the Win.

After a scoreless first 3 innings, Fort Ripley broke through for 3 runs in the top of the 4th. Riley DeRosier led off by getting hit by a pitch from Josiah Peterson, followed by a single from Wyatt Gabrielson. After Brett Kramer singled, the Rebels had the bases loaded with no outs. Tyler Gruye walked to force in DeRosier, followed by an rbi single from Gus Lund to make it 2-0.  Brett Kramer then scored on a wild pitch and the Rebels led 3-0.

In the top of the 6th, the Rebels extended their lead when Brett Kramer walked, but after a strikeout and a Gus Lund fielders choice, the Rebels had a man at 1st with 2 outs. Mason Argir then doubled to right to move Lund to 3rd. Eli Roberts followed that up with a double of his own, driving in both Gus Lund and Mason Argir to make it 5-0. Alex Haapajoki then singled, sending Roberts to 3rd. Bill Sather then kept it going with an rbi single to center to score Roberts and make it 6-0.

In the top of the 7th, Fort Ripley’s Wyatt Gabrielson was hit by a pitch from new hurler Charles Hackett. Tyler Gruye then walked with 1 out as did Gus Lund to load the bases. Mason Argir then hit a sacrifice fly to drive in Gabrielson to make it 7-0.

That score held up until the bottom of the 8th when Wyatt Ziwicki collected a pinch-hit single with 1 out. Charles Hackett then walked and after a force out, an Ean Von Wald rbi single to center made it 7-1.

In the bottom of the 9th, reliever Tyler Gruye picked up 2 quick strikeouts, then Drew Beier singled. Josiah Peterson then blasted a 2-run Homer to left to make it 7-3. Wyatt Ziwicki then reached on an error before Gruye got Charles Hackett to pop up to shortstop Alex Haapajoki to end the game with the Rebels winning 7-3.

With Fort Ripley’s win over Foley and Avon’s loss to Sobieski, both the Rebels and Lakers finish with identical 4-8 records during the regular season. Due to Victory League tiebreaking procedures, Fort Ripley will be the #5 seed in the Section 4B Playoffs while Avon will be the #6 seed. The deciding tiebreaker came down to “runs scored in head-to-head competition”. Avon beat Fort Ripley 7-0 but Fort Ripley beat Avon 14-3.  So Fort Ripley holds the tiebreaker by a 14-10 scoring margin.  Foley ends the regular season with a record of 7-5 and will be the #3 seed in Section 4B.
