The Freeport Black Sox picked up a 1-0 road win over the Royalton Riverdogs on Sunday as Kaden Toutges went the distance, scattering 4 hits while striking out 5 to earn the Win.
Royalton had a scoring chance develop in the bottom of the 2nd when Joey Gaida singled with 1 out, but then was forced ouot at 2nd on a ground ball from Gavin Suska. Ryan Swenson then singled and Ethan Albright was hit by a pitch to load the bases with 2 outs, but Kaden Toutges got Ryan Snyder to pop up to Freeport left fielder Trevor Sawyer to end the threat.
Freeport got the games only run in the top of the 5th when Dominic Ritter led off the inning with a double against Riverdogs starter Marcus Hayes. Ritter advanced to 2nd on a ground out from Carter Neuenschwander, them moved to 3rd on another ground out from Iver Papke. Ben Millard then hit a grounder that was misplayed for an error, allowing Ritter to score and make it 1-0.
That was enough for Kaden Toutges, the red-shirted Freshman from the Jamestown Jimmies out of New London-Spicer HS, who faced just 1 man over the minimum after the 4th inning while holding the Riverdogs hitless in that same time frame.
Royalton’s Marcus Hayes also went the distance, which should come as no surprise as Hayes has developed into one of the League’s true workhorses. It was his 7 starting assignment in the Riverdogs 9 games and it was his 5th Complete Game. With no official stats kept in the Victory League, I would bet thought that Hayes leads the League in Innings Pitched with 54 this season.
