The Freeport Black Sox built a 10-0 lead in the 1st 3 innings and cruised past the Flensburg Falcons 14-1 in 7 innings on Sunday. It’s the 3rd straight win for the Black Sox after starting the year 0-3.
Freeport seized control in the top of the 1st, scoring 6 times. A Mason Toutges 2-run single got things started, then a bases loaded walk to Carter Neuenschwander made it 3-0. A 2-run double from Dominic Ritter scored Iver Papke and Trevor Sawyer to make it 5-0. The final run of the inning came when Ben Millard grounded out to 2nd, allowing Neuenschwander to score.
In the top of the 3rd, Flensburg pitcher Simon Pantzke got a strikeout of Trevor Sawyer but then Carter Neuenschwander reached on an error. Pantzke then fanned Dominic Ritter for the 2nd out, but Ben Millard’s rbi single to center brought home Neuenschwander to make it 7-0. Matt Johnson followed with a single, then Bryan Benson singled to left, and on an error, both Millard and Johnson scored to make it 9-0. After Jake Braegelmann was hit by a pitch, the Sox put on a double steal with Benson taking 3rd and Braegelmann 2nd, and an error on the play allowed Benson to sprint home to make it 10-0.
In the top of the 7th, a single by Brady Hoppe brought up pinch-hitter Jadin Norby. Norby launched a 2-run Homer to left to make it 12-0. Back-to-back walks to Ben Mettenburg and Trevor Sawyer brought up Carter Neuenschwander, who doubled to right to drive n 2 more and make it 14-0.
Freeport starter Andrew Kerzman lost his bid for s shutout in the bottom of the 7th when the Falcons got consecutive singles from Carlos and Juan Melanciano. After Eli Epling went down on strikes, Kerzman added another strikeout for the 2nd out. Pinch-hitter Nolan Sams spoiled the shutout with an rbi single to score Carlos Melanciano to make it 14-1 before Kerzman finished the game by getting Seth Becker to pop up to 2nd.
