The Freeport Black Sox won for the 2nd time this weekend when they backed up Sunday’s 9-7 extra-inning win over the Pierz Bulldogs with a come-from-behind 12-10 road win at Randall on Memorial Day. The Black Sox used a 5-run 8th inning to turn things around against the Cubs.
Freeport came out of the gates with 3 runs in the top of the 1st when Trevor Sawyer scored on a wild pitch and Iver Papke lined a 2-run single to right to score both Bryan Benson and Jake Braegelmann to make it 3-0.
In the top of the 2nd, the Sox added another 2 runs on Jake Braegelmann’s rbi single, plating Trevor Sawyer to make it 4-0. Iver Papke drew a bases loaded walk to force in Bryan Benson to push Freeport’s lead to 5-0.
Randall ramped up their offense in the bottom of the 2nd, scoring 5 times to tie the game up. The first run came in when a grounder by Adam Nibaur was misplayed for an error, allowing Alex Gwost to score. Nate Benning then drilled a 2-run double, chasing home Garrett Lindberg and Adam Nibaur to make it 5-3. Zack Gwost added another double, scoring Benning, to make it 5-4. Then Matt Otremba joined the Cubs doubles parade with a 2-bagger of his own, scoring Gwost to tie the game at 5-5 after 2 innings.
Freeport forged back in front in the 4th when Mason Toutges singled to drive in Jake Braegelmann to make it 6-5.
In the top of the 5th, the Sox struck again, this time it was a sacrifice fly from Matt Johnson driving home Ben Millard to give Freeport a 7-5 lead.
In the bottom of the 7th, the Cubs put up their 2nd 5-run inning of the game to grab a 10-7 lead. Alex Gwost singled to drive in Zack Gwost to make it a 7-6 game and then with the bases loaded, Brett Strack smashed a Grand Slam Homer to left, bringing home Rick Drew, Alex Zack and Alex Gwost to put the Cubs ahead 10-7.
But the Black Sox then showed they could also have a 5-run inning, and they did just that in the top of the 8th. The Sox loaded the bases and Carter Neuenschwander then walked to force in Jake Braegelmann to make it 10-8. Dominic Ritter singled to center, bringing home Iver Papke and Mason Toutges to make it 10-10. Trevor Sawyer then drove in the eventual winning run with a 2-run single, as both Carter Neuenschwander and Dominic Ritter scored to make it 12-10.
