Jeremiah Piepkorn Game-Winning Single as Nisswa Walks Off Sobieski 6-5

The Nisswa Lightning, playing their first game of the season, found themselves trailing 5-4 at home against the Sobieksi Skis going to the bottom of the 9th, but they got a game-tying rbi single from Matt Casperson to make it 5-5, then Jeremiah Piepkorn delivered the game winning hit with a single to left to give Nisswa the 6-5 win over the Skis.

In the bottom of the 1st, Nisswa’s Colbe Tappe singled with 1 out, then went to 3rd on a double from Nate DeChaine. A Brett Jenkins fielders choice ground out brought in Tappe to make it 1-0 after 1 inning.

In the top of the 3rd, an Alex Thoma rbi single brought home Joey Welinski to make it 3-1 in favor of the Skis. Sobieski added another run in the 3rd on a double steal with Alex Thoma scoring and Sobieski was up 4-1.

In the bottom of the 5th, Jeremiah Piepkorn led off with a single and eventually scored on a wild pitch to make it 4-2.

In the bottom of the 6th, Nate DeChaine drove in Matt Casperson with an rbi single to make it a 4-3 game after 6 innings.

The Skis regained the lead in the top of the 8th when Alex Thoma led off with a double, followed by a single from Collin Eckman. After a pair of strikeouts, Beau Thoma singled to center to score Alex Thoma, as Collin Eckman was thrown out at the plate to end the inning with the Skis back in front 5-4.

In the bottom of the 8th, Nisswa got a 2-out walk to Nate DeChaine but that was it.

In the top of the 9th, Nate DeChaine got 2 flyouts and a strikeout in a 1-2-3 inning, bringing the Lighting to the plate still down a run.

With Beau Thoma on the mouund to pitch the 9th, Sam Peterson fell behind 0-2 but worked a walk. Thoma then struck out Bodie Piepkorn for the 1st out. Aaron Jenkins then walked to move Peterson to 2nd. A Blaine Hardy grounder was then misplayed for an error and Nisswa had the bases loaded with 1 out. Nisswa used Isaiah Biehn as a pinch-runner for Jenkins. Matt Casperson tied the game with a single, scoring Peterson to make it 5-5. Jeremiah Piepkorn then delivered a single to left to bring home Biehn with the winning run as Nisswa prevailed 6-5 over Sobieski in comeback fashion.
