The Board of Directors of the Minnesota Baseball Association will meet this Saturday, April 14, 2012 at the Holiday Inn in St. Cloud, Minnesota. The meeting time is 10:00 A.M. They are also meeting on Friday night to inspect the Cold Spring Park. Cold Spring is the third site for the 2012 State Tournament.
The main thrust of the meeting on Saturday will be to determine the Region and Section alignments. The Section alignments have been made and there doesn't look to be much change to come. The Region alignments, however, are always changing and this year it will be more important than ever because it will affect the number of teams that will participate in the State Tournament.
This year Class C will have a 48 team single elimination tournament rather than the 32 team tournament in past years. Six Regions will send four teams, four regions will send three teams and six regions will send two teams, all based on attendance over the last 10 years. The regions with the most attendance will send the most teams.
This is the breakdown of the number of teams each region will send to the State Tournament: (Region - # of teams),
(#1 - 2), (#2 - 4), (#3 - 4), (#4 - 3), (#5 - 2), (#6 - 3), (#7 - 4), (#8 - 4), (#9 - 2), (#10 - 2), (#11 - 3), (#12 - 4), (#13 - 3), (#14 - 2), (#15 - 4), (#16 - 2).
Other things on the Board's agenda are player questionaires, invitational tournament approvals and hiring of support personnel for the Baseball website. See you in St. Cloud.
