Nisswa Lightning Beat Foley 4-1 As Wittwer Homers To Lead 11-Hit Attack

Tyler Wittwer hit a 2-run Homer to lead the Nisswa Lightning to a 4-1 win over the Foley Lumberjacks on Sunday at City Park in Nisswa.

Foley put together the first legitimate scoring chance in the top of the 3rd against Nisswa starter Colbe Tappe when Alex Foss walked, Drew Beier singled and Joe Ziwicki was hit by a pitch to load the bases with no outs.  But Tappe struck out Chuck Hackett, then Mitch Keeler went down on strikes as well before Vince Jurek grounded out to 2nd baseman Kyle Kotaska to put an end to the rally.

Foley loaded the bases again in the top of the 4th when Alec Dietl reached on a 1-out error, Michael Moulzolf singled and Alex Foss was hit by a Tappe pitch. But for the 2nd inning in a row, Tappe came away unscathed. He got Drew Beier to pop out to 3rd baseman Dalton Maxwell for the 2nd out and then Joe Ziwicki popped out in foul territory to Tappe.

In the bottom of the 4th, Nisswa’s Chris Pederson singled with 2 outs against Foley starter Michael Moulzolf. Tyler Witweer then belted a 2-run Homer to left to put the Lightning up 2-0 after 4 innings.

In the bottom of the 5th, Nisswa added 2 more runs when Jeremiah Piepkorn singled with 1 out. Piepkorn advanced to 2nd on a gorund out by Blaine Hardy, then an rbi double from Kyle Kotaska made it 3-0. Colbe Tappe then doubled as well to score Kotaska and give Nisswa a 4-0 lead after 5 innings.

Nisswa turned the ball over to Ben Dornseif to pitch the 6th and 7th and he held Foley scoreless.

With Blaine Hardy on the mound for the 8th and 9th, Foley broke up the shutout in the top of the 9th when Drew Beier led off with a solo Homer to right to make it 4-1. Hardy then picked up a strikeout and a pair of fly ball outs to the outfield to finish off the Lightning’s 4-1 win.
