The Nisswa Lightning put up 3 runs in the bottom of the 1st and went on to a 7-0 win over the Avon Lakers on Friday night at City park in Nisswa, earning a sweep of their season series. Blaine Hardy went 5, allowing just 1 hit and striking out 7 and Keaton Lingenfelter threw the final 4 innings, scattering 2 hits while adding 4 strikeouts of his own in the combined 3-hit shutout. Kody Ruedisili belted a 3-run Homer in the 7th to cap off the scoring after the Lightning had jumped on Avon for 3 in the bottom of the 1st.
Kody Ruedisili led off the bottom of the 1st with a walk, and after a fly out, Jeremiah Piepkorn singled. A walk to Sam Peterson then filled the bases and Ruedisili scored on a wild pitch to make it 1-0, followed by a Brett Jenkins rbi ground out to score Piepkorn and make it 2-0. Chris Pederson then singled to right to drive in Sam Peterson to give Nisswa a 3-0 lead after 1 inning.
Avon picked up their first hit of the night against Blaine Hardy in the top of the Kadyn Mork singled with 2 outs in the top of the 3rd, followed by a walk to Elliott Burnett to bring the potential tying run to the plate, but Hardy got Reese Gregory to ground out in front of the plate to end the inning.
Nisswa added a run in the bottom of the 4th when Chris Pederson walked and Aaron Jenkins got hit by a pitch from Elian Mezquita. After a pair of fly outs to center, Chris Pederson scored on a wild pitch to make it 4-0 after 4.
In the bottom of the 7th, Tyler Wittwer walked, as did Matt Casperson. Kody Ruedisili then smashed a 3-run Homer to center to give Nisswa a 7-o lead.
Nisswa improves to 5-5 and will host Sobieski on Sunday and then close out the regular season on July 27th at St. Stephen. Avon falls to 3-7 and the Lakers will host St. Stephen on Saturday and then close out their regular season on the 27th at home against Sobieski.
