Pierz Brewers Blank Flensburg Falcons 12-0 in 7 As Badeaux and Veith Combine to Throw 2-Hitter

The Pierz Brewers took care of busines early on Sunday afternoon in their home game with the Flensburg Falcons. The Brewers scored 3 in the 1st, 2 each in the 2nd and 3rd and then 4 in the 4th to go ahead 11-0, then tacked on a 6th inning run for the 12-0 final.

In the bottom of the 1st, after Gunnar Wixklund and Kaden Kruschek had singled with 1 out, Kruschek stole 2nd.  A 2-run single by Phil Zynda made it 2-0. Stephen Nezerka then singled, and with 2 outs, Peter Schommer doubled to center to score Zynda to make it 3-0 after 1 inning.

In the bottom of the 2nd, Derek Dahmen reached on an error, then scored on a double from Gunnar Wicklund to make it 4-0. Wicklund then scored on an error on a fly ball hit by Phil Zynda to make it 5-0 after 2 innings.

In the bottom of the 3rd, Preston Veith led off with a double, then a 2-out error kept the inning alive as Veith advanced to 3rd and Derek Dahmen reached at 1st. Derek Dahmen then stole 2nd and Michael Nezerka singled to right, scoring Veith, and when the ball was kicked around for an error, Derek Dahmen scored as well to make it 7-0 after 3 innings.

The Falcons picked up their first hit of the game with a 1-out single from Simon Pantzke in the top of the 4th.

The Brewers kept rolling in the bottom of the 4th when Kaden Kruschek led off with a single.  After a fly out, Stephen Nezerka singled as well to put runners at 1st and 2nd. A ground out by Preston Veith put Kruschek at 3rd and Nezerka at 2nd with 2 outs. Peter Schommer’s ground ball was misplayed for an error, allowing Kruschek to score and make it 8-0. After Schommer swiped 2nd, Nathan Solinger came through with a 2-run single to make it 10-0. Another Falcons error allowed Solinger to score and make it 11-0 after 4 innings.

After throwing 5 shutout innings of 1-hit ball with 9 strikeouts, Brewers starter Maverick Badeaux gave way to Preston Veith to pitch the top of the 6th.

In the bottom of the 6th, the Brewers made it 12-0 when Preston Veith walked and went to 2nd on a wild pitch. 1 out later, Mike Poser doubled to right to bring in Veith with the final run of the game.

In the top of the 7th, Simon Pantzke added his, and his teams, 2nd hit of the game with a lead off single, but reliever Preston Veith then got a fly out to left and Pantzke was doubled off 1st by Phil Zynda.  After a walk, Veith closed things out for the Brewers with a game-ending strikeout.
