Pete Schommer scattered 8 hits and struck out 5 in a Complete Game pitching performance as the Pierz Brewers shut out the Royalton Riverdogs 4-0 in Royalton on Sunday.
After a scoreless 1st inning, the Brewers got on the board in the top of the 2nd against Riverdogs starter Marcus Hayes. Derek Dahmen reached base on a 2-out error, followed by a Nathan Solinger single to center. Pete Schommer then singled to left to bring in Dahmen to make it 1-0. Kaden Kruschek was then hit by a pitch to load the bases and then Marcus Hayes walked Rylee Rauch to force in Solinger to make it 2-0.
Royalton threatened in the bottom of the 2nd with 2 outs on a single from the Ryan Swenson, an error and another hit from Kirk Yourczek, but Brewers centerfielder Maverick Badeaux threw out Ryan Swenson at the plate to end the inning.
Still trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the 7th, the Riverdogs got back-to-back 1-out singles from Ethan Albright and Ryan Swenson to put the tying run on base. But Ethan Albright was thrown out trying to steal 3rd and then Pete Schommer got Ryan Snyder to ground out to 2nd baseman Nathan Solinger to end the inning.
In the top of the 8th, Preston Veith led off with a single and was pinch-run for by Jared Prokott for the Brewers. Prokott was sacrificed to 2nd on a bunt from Michael Nezerka, then scored on a 2-out rbi single from Derek Dahmen to make it 3-0.
Pete Schommer then came out in the bottom of the 8th and retired the Riverdogs in order.
In the top of the 9th, Kaden Kruschek doubled with 1 out for the Brewers. Cam Waytashek was used as a pinch-runner for Kruschek and he advanced to 3rd on a ground ball to 2nd from Rylee Rauch. The Brewers then put in Chuck Boser to run for Waytashek, then Mike Poser replaced Boser a pitch later as all 3 guys got a game in during that sequence. Phil Zynda then singled to center to score Mike Poser and make it 4-0 going to the bottom of the 9th.
In their final at-bat, Pete Schommer got Hunter Young, Keaton Nelson and Jaden Albright to ground out to end the game with a 4-0 Brewers win.
