Peter Schommer earned his 2nd Win of the Region 9C Tournament as the Pierz Brewers downed the Pierz Bulldogs 6-2 at Hellie Field in Pierz , and in doing so, will play for the Region 9C Championship next Friday night in Pierz.
The Brewers scored in the bottom of the 1st off Bulldogs starter Brayden Haberman when Kaden Kruschek led off with an infield single, was wild pitched to 2nd and later scored on a Ryan Stuckmayer groundout to give the Brewers a 1-0 lead after 1 inning.
In the bottom of the 3rd, the Brewers got a lead-off double from Phil Zynda, a wild pitch and then a run-scoring squeeze bunt from Ryan Stuckmayer to make it 2-0 after 3 innings.
In the bottom of the 4th, Kaden Kruschek ripped a lead-off double to left-center, then Gunnar Wicklund belted a 2-run Homer over the fence in right to give the Brewers a 3-0 lead. After getting the next 2 outs. Brayden Haberman then walked the next 3 hitters to load the bases, then hit Derek Dahmen with a pitch to force in Rylee Rauch to give the Brewers a 6-0 lead after 4 innings. Jackson Thielen then came on to relieve Haberman and he shut out the Brewers for the rest of the game without allowing a hit.
In the top of the 5th, Jackson Thielen led off with a single to center, then Sawyer Lochner connected for a 2-run Homer to right with 1 out to make it 6-2.
With the score still 6-2 in the top of the 8th, the Bulldogs did get the potential tying run to the plate when Reese Young doubled, Max Barclay singled and Teddy Dehler got hit by a pitch with 1 out to load the bases. But Peter Schommer struck out Brian Kiel and got Cooper Grashorn to ground out to shortstop Rylee Rauch to strand all 3 runners.
Gunnar Wicklund took over to pitch the top of the 9th for the Brewers and gave up a 1-out single to Craig Luberts, but then Sawyer Lochner lined out to right and Wicklund struck out Reese Young to end the game with the Brewers winning 6-2.
The Bulldogs will now play Randall in an elimination game on Sunday morning at 10:30 am in Opole. The Brewers will face the winner of Saturday’s game between Opole and Aitkin.
