The Pierz Lakers kicked off Memorial Day weekend with an 8-1 win over the Pierz Brewers on Friday night at Hellie Field. Ryan Chmielewski and Noah Cekalla combined to scatter 5 hits while striking out 19 Brewers hitters. Brady Petron Homered, Doubled and drove in 4 runs while Preston Rocheleau and Chase Becker collected 3 hits each to pace the Lakers offense. The Brewers got their lone run on a Preston Veith rbi single in the 5th inning.
After a scoreless first 2 innings, the Lakers got on the board in the bottom of the 3rd when Carter Petron walked with 1 out, followed by Brady Petron’s 2-run Homer to left to give the Lakers a 2-0 lead.
In the 4th, Chase Becker led off with a single, was sacrificed to 2nd by Kamden Happke, went to 3rd on a single from Kolten Happke and then Becker scored on Ryan Chmielewski’s squeeze bunt to make it 3-0.
The Brewers made it 3-1 in the top of the 5th when Ryan Stuckmayer led off with a walk, went to 3rd on Gunnar Wicklund’s single and scored on a 2-out single from Preston Veith.
The Lakers got that run back in the bottom of the 6th on a Kolten Happke single, an error and Carter Petron’s run-scoring single to make it 4-1 after 6.
In the 7th, Preston Rocheleau led off with a single, was sacrificed to 2nd by Ryan Diers and scored on a Chase Becker rbi double to put the Lakers ahead 5-1.
The Lakers then finished off the scoring in the bottom of the 8th when Noah Cekalla doubled, followed by Carter Petron getting hit by a pitch. Brady Petron then doubled to score both runs and make it 7-1. Preston Rocheleau then delivered his 3rd hit of the night, an rbi single to plate Brady Petron, and make the final score 8-1.
Ryan Chmielewski got the Win , throwing 5 innings and striking out 9. Noah Cekalla pitched the final 4 innings to get a Save, fanning 10 and allowing just 1 baserunner to the Brewers after the 5th inning.
