The Randall Cubs posted a nice 7-4 win over the visiting Pierz Brewers on Sunday. The Cubs got 7th inning Homers from Zach Gwost and Rick Drew in the pivotal inning of the game.
The game was scoreless until the bottom of the 4th when Matt Otremba led off the frame with a solo Homer to put Randall up 1-0.
The Cubs added 2 more runs in the bottom of the 5th when Charlie Smieja and Alex Gwost both singled and moved up a base on a Brewers error. After a ground out to 1st baseman Preston Veith by Garrett Linberg, Nathan Benning ripped a 2-run single to plate both Smieja and Gwost to give the Cubs a 3-0 lead.
Randall made it 4-0 in the bottom of the 6th when Charlie Smieja singled with 2 outs, then went to 2nd on a wild pitch. Alex Gwost then doubled to right to score Smieja and make it 4-0 after 6 innings.
In the top of the 7th, the Brewers got things going when Preston Veith led off with a single against Cubs starter Adam Nibaur. Rylee Rauch then walked with 1 out, and Nathan Solinger loaded the bases with a single. Derek Dahmen singled to left, scoring Veith and when the ball was misplayed in left for an error, Rauch scored as well to make it 4-2. After Nibaur struck out Michael Nezerka for the 2nd out, an rbi single from Kaden Kruschek brought home Solonger to make it 4-3 at the 7th inning stretch.
Randall got 1 of those runs back immediately when Zach Gwost smashed a lead-off Homer to open the bottom of the 7th to make it 5-3. Matt Otremba then walked, bringing up Rick Drew, who clubbed a 2-run Homer to right, bringing in pinch-runner Tarique Torre to put the Cubs ahead 7-3 after 7 innings.
In the top of the 8th, Preston Veith reached on a 1-out error, then scored on a 2-out rbi double from Rylee Rauch to make it 7-4.
The Brewers did get the potential tying run to the plate in the top of the 9th against new pitcher Nathan Benning. After Benning got 2 quick out,s he then walked both Kaden Kruschek and Gunnar Wicklund to bring Stephen Nezerka to the plate as the tying run. But Benning got Nezerka to fly out to right fielder Garrett Lindberg to end the ballgame and lock down the Cubs 7-4 win.
