The Randall Cubs unleashed a 16-hit attack including 8 doubles and a Home Run in a 13-3 win in 7 innings over the Royalton Riverdogs on Sunday. After trailing 3-0 heading to the bottom of the 3rd, the Cubs put up 6 runs in the 3rd to take the lead and never looked back. Adam Nibaur earned the Win with 4.1 innings of relief work.
Royalton put a run on the board in the top of the 1st when Kirk Yourczek led off with a walk against Cubs starter Zach Gwost. After Yourczek stole 2nd, he advanced to 3rd on a ground out to 2nd baseman Braxten Santala. Tyler Jendro then singled to center to drive in Yourczek to make it 1-0.
In the top of the 3rd, the Riverdogs tacked on another 2 runs when Tyler Jendro was hit by a pitch with 1 out and then stole 2nd. Jendro then swiped 3rd as well, and scored on an rbi single by Drew Yourczek to make it 2-0. Yourczek then stole 2nd, followed by a Gwost strikeout of Nathan Psyck for the 2nd out. Yourczek went to 3rd on a passed ball and then scored on an rbi single by Hunter Young to put Royalton ahead 3-0. After Gwost walked the next 2 hitters, the Cubs brought in Adam Nibaur and he got Ryan Snyder to pop out to shortstop Alex Gwost as the Riverdogs took a 3-0 lead to the bottom of the 3rd.
Adam Nibaur led off the bottom of the 3rd with a sharp single to right, followed by a 2-run Homer to left by Alex Gwost to bring the Cubs within 1 at 3-2. Braxten Santala then singled to right, with Zach Gwost then ripping a game-tying rbi double to center as Santala raced around to make it 3-3. Rick Drew then doubled with Gwost advancing to 3rd. Matt Otremba then clubbed the Cubs 3rd straight double, driving in both Gwost and Drew to put Randall ahead 5-3. A Garrett Lindberg ground out to 1st baseman Tyler Jendro moved Otremba to 3rd with 1 out. Alec Zack then grounded out to shortstop Zach Cekalla for the 2nd out with Otremba staying put at 3rd. Bob Sanders then was hit by a pitch and then Adam Nibaur smashed the Cubs 4th double of the inning, driving in Otremba to make it 6-3. Marcy Hayes then relieved Nathan Psyck on the mound for Royalton and walked Alex Gwost to load the bases. Hayes then fanned Braxten Santala to end the 3rd with Randall now up 6-3.
Randall added another 2 runs in the bottom of the 4th when both Zach Gwost and Rick Drew singled to start the inning, followed by Matt Otremba grounding into a double play, leaving Rick Drew at 2nd base with 2 outs. Garrett Lindberg then doubled to right field, scoring Drew to make it 7-3. Alec Zack added an rbi single to chase home Lindberg to make it 8-3 after 4.
In the bottom of the 5th, Royalton brought in Kirk Yourczek to pitch and he walked Adam Nibaur, then Alex Gwost reached on an error, moving Nibaur to 3rd. Braxten Santala then grounded out to Tyler Jendro at 1st, with Gwost moving to 2nd and Nibaur holding at 3rd. Zach Gwost then doubled to left, scoring both Nibaur and Alex Gwost to make it a 10-3 game. Rick Drew then drove in Zach Gwost with a groundout to make it 11-3 after 5.
The Cubs then ended the game due to the 10-run rule in the bottom of the 7th when Adam Nibaur reached on an error, followed by an Alex Gwost single. Braxten Santala then delivered an rbi double, scoring Nibaur to make it 12-3. Alex Gwost then scored on a fly ball by Zach Gwost to make the final score 13-3.
