Veteran right-hander Nathan Psyck showed once again why he has been one of the Victory League’s true workhorses over his career as he took the mound in St. Mathias on Sunday and fired a Complete Game 2-hit shutout with 11 strikeouts as the Royalton Riverdogs blanked the St. Mathias Devils 4-0.
Royalton scored the only runs they would eventually need in the top of the 1st when Grayson Suska led off the game with a walk, went to 2nd on a 1-out single by Tyler Jendro. then both Suska and Jendro scored on a 2-out double by Ethan Albright to make it 2-0.
St. Mathias had a chance to score in the bottom of the 3rd when they loaded the bases with 2 outs on a walk to Josh Kossan, a single by Hunter Wicklund and a 2-out walk to Bryce Flanagan. Nate Psyck got out of that jam by getting Luke Zontelli to line out to left fielder Nick Henry to end the inning.
It remained 2-0 until the top of the 6th when Royalton got a lead-off walk by Zack Cekalla, then an error moved Cekalla to 3rd and from there, he scored on a wild pitch to make it 3-0.
In the top of the 8th, Ryan Snyder belted a 1-out solo Homer to right to put the Riverdogs up 4-0. That was more than enough run support for Nathan Psyck, who didn’t allow a hit to the Devils after the 3rd inning.
