Sobieski Back In Win Column After 5-3 Win over Avon

After losing a pair of games last weekend, the Sobieski Skis got back in the Win column with a 5-3 win over the visiting Avon Lakers on Sunday.

Avon took a 1st inning lead when Ryan Janzen led off the game with a single and stole 2nd. After Skis starter Dusty Parker got a strikeout, Nolan Dumonceaux reached on an infield single behind 2nd base, then Reese Gregory drove in Janzen with a single into left put Avon ahead 1-0.

The Skis answered right back in the bottom of the 1st when Beau Thoma beat out an infield single and stole 2nd. After Avon starter Drew Lieser got a strikeout and a ground out to 2nd baseman Ryan Janzen, Alex Thoma walked with 2 outs. Dusty Parker then singled to score Thoma and tie the game at 1-1 after 1 inning.

After the 2nd and 3rd innings went by withouit a run scored, Avon scored 2 in the top of the 4th on a 2-run double from Elliott Burnett to put the Lakkers ahead 3-1.

In the bottom of the 5th, Hudson Filippi singled with 1 out.  After Drew Leiser got a strikeout for the 2nd out, Beau Thoma sailed a Lieser pircher over the right-center wall for a 2-run Homer and the game was tied at 3-3 after 5 innings.

Collin Eckman took over from Dusty Parker on the mound to start the 7th and gave up a 1-out double to Nolan Dumonceaux, but then got back-to-back strikeouts to keep it a 3-3 game.

The Skis took their first lead in the bottom of the 7th on a Collin Eckman infield single, and a sacrifice bunt from Hudson Filippi. After a strikeout, Beau Thoma put Sobieski in front with a single to score Eckman and make it 4-3. Collin Kray then singled to right and when the throw in to the infield rolled away for an error, Beau Thoma raced home to make it 5-3.

Collin Eckman came out and had a 1-2-3 top of the 8th with a fly ball to Hudson Filippi in right, a pop up back to the mound and another strikeout.

In the 9th, Avon got a 2-out infield single from Elliott Burnett to get the potential tying run to the plate, but Collin Eckman finished things off with a strikeout of Nolan Dumonceaux to seal the Skis 5-3 win.
