Hudson Filippi, Beau Thoma and Matt Filippi all smashed solo Homers to help lead the Sobieski Skis to a 6-1 win over the St. Stephen Steves on Sunday. On the mound, Matt Filippi and Beau Thoma combined to limit the Steves to just 4 hits with Sam Holthaus accounting the the Steves lone run with a solo blast in the 5th.
Sobieski opened the scoring in the bottom of the 2nd when Hudson Filippi led off with a Homer to center off Steves starter Jack Greenlun to make it 1-0.
In the bottom of the 3rd, Matt Filippi led off with a single, then Collin Kray reached on an error that allowed Filippi to score and make it 2-0. After Kray stole 2nd, Collin Eckman doubled with 1 out to plate Kray and make it 3-0 after 3 innings.
Sam Holthaus led off the top of the 5th with a solo Homer to right to put St. Stephen on the board at 3-1.
In the bottom of the 5th, Collin Kray led off with a single, Jake Kapphahn then bunted for a single and Collin Eckman walked to load the bases. After Jack Greenlun struck out both Dusty Parker and Hudson Filippi, Riley Czech walked to force in Collin Kray to put the Skis ahead 4-1.
Beau Thoma led off the bottom of the 6th to push Sobieski’s lead to 5-1.
In the bottom of the 8th, Matt Filippi greeted new pitcher Nick Krippner with a solo Home Run to make it a 6-1 game.
Cole Fuecker doubled with 1 out in the top of the 9th for the Steves off beau Thoma but that was it, as Thoma got Mat Meyer to pop out to catcher Gabe Hirsch and Sam Holthaus lined out to rightfielder Matt Filippi to end the game.
