The Sobieski Skis collected 7 doubles among their 14 hits in an 8-2 win over the St. Stephen Steves on Sunday. Collin Eckman, Beau Thoma, Hudson Filippi, Matt Filippi (2), Jake Kapphahn and Joey Welinski all had extra-base hits for the Skis and Beau Thoma and Collin Eckman combined to limit the Steves to 6 hits in the Skis win.
Sobieski posted 4 runs in the top of the 1st, getting 4 of their doubles in the 1st. Beau Thoma opened the game with a double and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Matt Baier to make it 1-0. Matt Filippi then reached on an error, stole 2nd and then scored on an rbi double by Jake Kapphahn to make it 2-0. After a ground out, Collin Eckman doubled home Kapphahn and it was 3-0. Joey Welinski then capped off the doubles parade with a 2-base hit of his own, plating Eckman to make it 4-0.
St. Stephen came back with 2 in the bottom of the 1st on singles by Charlie Kent and Mat Meyer, a walk to Brandon Waldvogel, then a wild pitch scored Kent and an rbi single by Landon Lunser plated Meyer to make it 4-2 after 1 inning.
The Skis tacked on another 3 runs in the top of the 2nd when Riley Czech was hit by a pitch to start the inning, Beau Thoma then singled, Matt Baier sacrificed and Matt Filippi cracked a 2-run double to make it 6-2. A 2-out rbi single by Hudson Filippi chased home Matt Filippi to make it 7-2.
The score remained 7-2 until the top of the 9th when Sobieski scored the final run of the game when Matt Filippi led off with his 2nd double of the game, stole 3rd and then scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Jake Kapphahn to make the final 8-2.
St. Stephen managed just 3 hits after the 1st inning as Winning Pitcher Beau Thoma fanned 12 over his 7 innings and Collin Eckman struck out 5 in his 2 innings of mound work.
