The St. Wendel Saints got a 1st inning 3-run Homer from Austin Dickmann and outstanding pitching from Connor Breth and Jake Ethen to beat St. Mathias 9-2 as the Saints moved to 4-0 this year.
The Saints opened the scoring in the bottom of the 1st on consecutive singles from Rolando Ramos and Logan Harren before Austin Dickmann launched a 3-run Homer over the St. Wendel monster in left to make it 3-0.
In the bottom of the 3rd, the Saints added to their lead when both Logan Harren and Austin Dickmann walked and eventually scored on a 2-run single off the bat of Connor Breth to make it 5-0 after 3.
In the top of the 7th, St. Mathias broke through for their 2 runs when Marcus Lennartson reached on an error and Konnor Wicklund walked. They loaded the bases on a single from Tydan Guida, then a walk to Nate Eschenbacher forced in Lennartson to make it 5-1. After a strikeout, Hunter Wicklund came through with a sacrifice fly to score Konnor Wicklund and lake it 5-2. After Luke Zontelli was hit by a pitch to reload the bases, the Devils brought the go-ahead run to the plate, but Bryce Flanagan flew out to center to leave the bases full.
St. Wendel got those 2 runs right back in the bottom of the 7th using 2 walks, a sacrifice bunt by Jake Ethen and then an error allowed both Carter Voss and Jacob Worlie to score and make it a 7-2 game after 7 innings.
In the bottom of the 8th, Rolando Ramos singled with 1 out, followed by a single from Logan Harren. Carter Voss then singled to right and the Saints had the bases loaded with 1 out. Brandon Dickmann then singled to left, plating both Ramos and Harren to make it 9-2.
The Devils got a lead-off walk to Nate Eschenbacher, but Jake Ethen then closed things out with 2 ground outs and a game-ending strikeout to give St. Wendel the 9-2 win.
