Both Austin and Brandon Dickmann smashed Homers and Aiden Micholski and Austin Dickmann combined to limit the Bears offense as St. Wendel downed Opole 6-3 on Memorial Day. St. Wendel had entered the game with a 4-0 record while Opole was 3-0.
Opole opened the scoring in the top of the 2nd when Keaton Gustin bashed a 1-out solo Homer to make it 1-0.
The Saints responded quickly in the bottom of the 2nd when Brandon Dickmann led off with a solo Homer of his own, followed by a Jake Ethen double. After a passed ball, a squeeze bunt by Aiden Micholski brought home Ethen to give the Saints a 2-1 lead.
In the bottom of the 4th, Connor Breth reached on a 2-out fielding error. Aiden Micholski then singled to center to move Breth to 2nd. Carter Voss then walked to load the bases and Tyler Huls delivered an rbi single to left to plate Breth and make it 3-1 after 4 innings.
An inning later in the bottom of the 5th, Logan Harren singled, then Austin Dickmann smashed a 2-run shot over the fence in left to put St. Wendel up 5-1 after 5 innings.
In the top of the 7th, Opole got walks from both Keaton Gustin and Tate Lange to open the inning, prompting a pitching change for the Saints with Austin Dickmann replacing Aiden Micholski. Masyn Patrick greeted Dickmann with a single to load the bases with no outs. Dickmann then got Dierks Opatz to fly out to right, but not deep enough to allow a potential tag up and score. Mavrick Novitski then grounded out to 2nd, allowing pinch-runner Hunter Boeckermann to score and make it 5-2. Dickmann then fanned Isaiah Folsom to end the inning.
In the top of the 8th, Opole scored again when both Alex Lange and Luke Bieniek took 1-out walks from Austin Dickmann, then Keaton Gustin singled to right to drive in Alex Lange and make it 5-3. Dickmann then fanned Tate Lange and got Masyn Patrick to ground back to the mound to finish off the inning.
In the bottom of the 8th, St. Wendel got a 1-out walk to Jake Ethen. Will Ethen then came into the game as a runner for Jake Ethen and Connor Breth put down a bunt to move Ethen into scoring position. Chase Lyon then stepped to the plate as a pinch-hitter for Aiden Micholski and promptly laced an rbi double to right to score Ethen and make it 6-3.
Austin Dickmann then worked a 1-2-3 top of the 9th to finish the game.
St. Wendel is now 5-0 in the League and Opole is now 3-1.
