Class A (Shakopee): Shakopee holds off Champlin Park 2-1

SHAKOPEE — Champlin Park stranded 13 baserunners as three Shakopee pitchers combined for a six-hitter at Joe Schleper Stadium in Shakopee on Friday night. The Indians held on to beat the LoGators 2-1 in the opening game of the Class A state tournament.

Indians leadoff hitter Tanner Ho went 3-for-5, stole a base, scored a run and had the game-winning RBI for the Indians, who advance to play Elko next Friday night.

The Indians, the visiting team on the scoreboard despite playing in their home park, got on the board first in the top of the third. Ho singled with one out, stole second and ended up on third after a throwing error by the pitcher. He scored on Kyle Ryan’s groundout to make it a 1-0 game.

The LoGators tied it in the bottom of the frame when Drake Siens led off with a single, advance on a sacrifice bunt and scored on Jack Puder’s two-out single.

Shakopee went ahead for good in the seventh. Jack Schlefer singled to open the inning and eventually scored on Ho’s sharp single to left. Schlefer was the only other Indians player with multiple hits, going 2-for-4.

Griff Larson threw two innings of shutout relief to pick up the win for the Indians.

Derek Schlomann gave the LoGators hope with a two-out double in the bottom of the ninth, but he was stranded at second when Larson struck out Wilson Guse to end the game.

Champlin Park had baserunners in every inning but the second, when Indians starter Jaden Case struck out the side in order. Sam Riola went 2-for-4 with a walk for the LoGators.
