The Avon Lakers bounced back from back-to-back losses to beat the St. Stephen Steves 8-1 on Saturday at Blattner Field in Avon. Drew Lieser struck out 12 over 8 innings to get the Win as the Lakers broke open a 3-1 game with 2 in the 7th and another 3 runs in the 8th.
Avon scored in the bottom of the 1st when Elliott Burnett was hit by a pitch from Jack Greenlun with 1 out, then moved to 2nd on a ground out from Reese Gregory. Burnett advanced to 3rd on a passed ball and then scored on a wild pitch to make it 1-0.
In the bottom of the 2nd, Jack Theisen reached base on a fielders choice, then went to 2nd on a single from Carter Holthaus. Theisen then scored on a Steves error to make it 2-0 after 2 innings.
St. Stephen got on the board in the top of the 6th when Jack Greenlun singled and Derek Durant walked against Drew Lieser. After a strikeout, Lucas Greenlun doubled to center to score Jack Greenlun and Derek Durant was thrown out at the plate trying to score and tie the game.
In the bottom of the 6th, Carter Philippi walked with 1 out and Drew Lieser followed with a single. After Philippi stole 3rd, he came in to score on a Jack Theisen put out and Avon led 3-1.
In the bottom of the 7th, Carter Holthaus reached on an error and eventually scored on a wild pitch and Carter Philippi drove in Nolan Bigaouette with an rbi dingle to make it 5-1 after 7.
In the bottom of the 8th, Jack Theisen singled and Carter Holthaus walked, and both came in to score on an Elliott Burnett 2-run double, making it 7-1. A Reese Gregory single moved Burnett to 3rd and he then scored on a wild pitch to make the final 8-1.
