Ben Thoma went 3-5 with a Home Run and 3 rbi as the Buckman Billygoats downed the Nisswa Lightning 9-3 on Sunday in Buckman.
This game was scoreless until the top of the 5th when Nisswa put 2 on the board against Billygoats starter Rylan Robinson when Brett Jenkins doubled, then scored on a Blaine Hardy rbi single to make it 1-0. After loading the bases on a walk to Kyle Kotaska and a hit from Matt Casperson, Blaine Hardy scored on a wild pitch to make it 2-0.
In the bottom of the 5th, the Billygoats got 2-out singles from Lane Girtz and Noah Boser, then Ben Thoma unloaded for a go-ahead 3-run Homer to left.
The Lightning came back to tie things up in the top of the 6th against new pitcher Matt Tautges when Matt Casperson singled to drive in Brett Jenkins and tie the game at 3-3.
In the bottom of the 6th, Andrew Rueckert led off with a double, then Jack Suska drove him in with a single to right, putting Buckman ahead 4-3. With 2 men on and 2 outs, Lane Girtz hit a fly ball to right that was dropped for an error and Peter Herman scored to make it 5-3. Noah Boser added an rbi single to plate Matt Tautges and make it a 6-3 lead for Buckman. Ben Thoma followed with a single and Lane Girtz scored on a wild pitch to make it 7-3 after 6 innings.
Buckman tacked on their final 2 runs in the bottom of the 8th when Matt Tautges and Lane Girtz both singled with 1 out. Kyle Winscher entered the game as a pinch-runner for Tautges and Noah Boser cracked a 2-run double to center to make it 9-3.
Matt Tautges closed things out in the top of the 9th with a grounder back to the mound and a pair of strikeouts as Buckman downed Nisswa 9-3.
