Upsala Bluejays Build 9-0 Lead, Hold on for 10-7 Win at Freeport

Justin Cichon banged out 3 hits  and Jack Primus doubled twice and drove in a pair of runs to help the Upsala Bluejays beat the Freeport Black Sox 10-7 on Sunday at Black Sox Park. Upsala seemed to have the game well in hand, building a 9-0 lead after the top of the 6th, but Freeport scored 3 in the bottom of both the 6th and 7th innings to make it 9-6 before both teams tallied a run in the 9th for the 10-7 final.

Upsala opened the scoring in the top of the 1st when Justin Cichon led off the game with a double, then scored on a ground out by CJ Clear to make it 1-0.

In the top of the 3rd, the Jays added 3 more runs on back-to-back singled by Justin Cichon and Bryce Binek, then a Black Sox error allowed Cichon to score.  Later in the inning, rbi singles by Brock Cichon and Brady Burggraff made it 4-0.

In the 4th, Jack Primus led off with a double and Justin Cichon walked. After a sacrifice bunt by Bryce Binek, a 2-run single by Brandon Welinski made it 6-0.

In the 5th, it was a single by Cohl Clear, a hit batter by Jack Primus and an rbi single by Justin Cichon pushed Upsala’s lead to 7-0.

The Blue Jays scored in their 4th straight inning in the 6th on a 2-run double from Jack Primus to go up 9-0.

Freeport began their comeback in the bottom of the 6th when both Bryan Benson and Jake Braegelmann walked and eventually scored on a 2-run single by Ben Millard to make it 9-2. Carter Neuenschwander also scored in the inning on a wild pitch to make it 9-3.

In the bottom of the 7th, the Black Sox added 3 more runs on a 2-out rbi single by Jake Braegelmann and a 2-run single from Carter Neuenschwander to make it 9-6 after 7 innings.

In the top of the 9th, Upsala made it 10-6 when Bryce Binek singled and eventually scored on a Hunter Moore rbi single.

Freeport got a 2-out single by Jake Braegelmann in the bottom of the 9th, then a single by Iver Papke. An rbi single by Carter Neuenschwander made it 10-7 and the Black Sox brought the potential tying run to the plate with 2 outs, but reliever Matt Swanson got Ben Millard on strikes to end the game with a 10-7 win for Upsala.
