The Victory League’s last unbeaten team (C or B) remained undefeated as the Upsala Bluejays downed the visting Pierz Bulldogs 4-2 on Sunday.
Upsala starter CJ Clear surrendered the only runs that the Bulldogs would get in the top of the 1st when Reese Young led off the game with a single and stole 2nd. Max Barclay then connected for a 2-run homer to put the Bulldogs up 2-0.
In the bottom of the 3rd, Upsala got on the board when Jack Primus reached on a 1-out error and then stole 2nd. After Pierz starter Brayden Haberman got a strikeout for the 2nd out, Jaxon Bartkowicz singled to left to score Primus and make it 2-1 after 3 innings.
The rest of the scoring came in the bottom of the 4th as Upsala’s Brandon Welinski led off by reaching on an error, followed by a Brady Burggraff single. Bryce Binek then walked to load the bases with no outs. Colton Burggraff tied the game with an rbi fielder’s choice to score Welinski and make it 2-2. CJ Clear then drove in Brady Burggraff with a ground out to make it 3-2 and the Jays final run came when Colton Burggraff scored on a wild pitch to make it 4-2 after 4 innings.
The Bulldogs got a Max Barclay single and an error in the top of the 7th but left runners on the corners against reliever Jack Primus to keep it 4-2.
Upsala picked up 3 singles in the bottom of the 7th from Jack Primus, Jaxon Bartkowicz and Brady Yourczek but they were unable to score as Pierz catcher Max Barclay threw out Primus strying to steal and reliever Reese Young got a fly out and a strikeout to end the inning.
The Bulldogs then were retired in order in both the 8th and 9th innings by Jack Primus to finish of Upsala’s 4-2 win.
